Introduction
Leather seats are truly beautiful – they look classy, high-quality, and instantly make any car more luxurious. But leather is also a material that quickly becomes greasy, retains dirt, and becomes dull if not cared for properly. In my video, I showed how I get the seats of my VW Tiguan really clean again with AntiDirt Leather Cleaner .
The cool thing is: You only need three simple tools – our cleaner, a good leather brush , and a microfiber cloth . That's all. And you'll see how much dirt comes out of black leather, even though it's barely noticeable at first glance.
Here I'll show you step by step how I do it – just like in the video.
Why leather seats need regular cleaning
Many people think, "Oh, leather is robust, it'll last." But that's precisely where the mistake lies. Leather is a natural product that is breathable and absorbs oils, skin flakes, and dirt over time. The result:
-
an unsightly, greasy surface
-
matting material
-
fine cracks when the pores become clogged
And even black leather, which conceals a lot of things, becomes unsightly over time – but you often only notice it when you clean it and see what comes out.
This is how I do it: Leather cleaning step by step
1. Prepare the right products
I use the AntiDirt Leather Cleaner , along with a high-quality leather brush and a microfiber cloth . It's especially important that the brush is suitable for leather. Many people are concerned that it will cause scratches, but with the AntiDirt brush I use, that's not a problem.
My wipe of choice: the AllClean Edgeless . It's ultrasonically cut, lint-free, and gentle enough that I could even use it on paintwork.
2. Apply cleaner
I spray the Leather Cleaner directly onto the seat. Important: Don't overdo it—a thin film is completely sufficient. Then I briefly distribute the cleaner with a brush so that the foam can form and penetrate the pores of the leather.
3. Working with the leather brush
Now comes the most important step: Brush the leather in circular motions. This loosens the dirt that has settled deep in the pores. This is also the reason why simply wiping with a cloth is never enough.
4. Remove with a microfiber cloth
Once the cleaner has been absorbed, I remove the dirt with the microfiber cloth. At the same time, I lightly polish the surface until it has a nice matte finish again.
5. Check and repeat if necessary
You can usually see a noticeable difference after the first pass. In my Tiguan, the seat looked much fresher after the first cleaning – but I repeated the process in a few places to really get everything out.
My tip: Don’t forget leather care
After cleaning, the leather is clean—but not yet protected. Therefore, I then treat the seats with a special leather conditioner . This keeps the material supple, prevents cracks, and ensures it looks like new for a long time.
I didn't show it in the video, but I recommend: cleaning and care always go together.
How often should you clean leather seats?
My recommendation: at least every six months. So, twice a year, you should thoroughly clean and condition your leather. This will keep it looking great and your car retains that classy look.
Conclusion
You see: Cleaning leather seats really isn't rocket science. With the AntiDirt Leather Cleaner , a brush, and a good microfiber cloth, you have everything you need. The difference is huge – even if the seats don't look that dirty at first glance.
That's what I do with my Tiguan – and I can recommend it to anyone who wants their leather to look fresh and well-maintained for a long time.
